Leptotrichia buccalis was examined by transmission electron microscopy. Its cell wall structure in generally compatible with that of gram-negative bacteria. However, the scale-like membranous folds associated with the external surface of the outer cell membrane appear to be sufficiently unusual to serve as a useful morphological criterion in the identification of L. baccalis cells.

We report a case of chorioamnionitis and pregnancy loss associated with this primarily oral commensal. Two new cases of Leptotrichia buccalis bacteremia in seriously ill patients were described. The anaerobic, gram-negative microorganism L. buccalis was isolated from blood cultures of two children with severe leukopenia. Anaerobic organisms should be taken into account when a standard protective antibiotic chemotherapy is considered in the immunosuppressed host.

The first complete genome sequence of the recently described Macrococcus canis species has been determined for the strain KM45013T (=DSM 101690T = CCOS 969T = CCUG 68920T = CCM 8748T). The strain was isolated from a dog with rhinitis and contains a putative γ-hemolysin and a mecB-carrying staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec element (SCCmecKM45013).
